New Build schemes

The partnership working between a number of VCS organisations and the council has been exceptional. The work on this project serves as a great illustration of Harrow Council and Harrows VCS approach to partnership working.

• GLA funding received
• Pipeline of sites – 5 further sites across the borough
• Positive pre-planning application achieved
• Strong financial viability

Initially the 2 schemes will deliver 10 units between them (subject to planning). These schemes will act as a pathfinder for future sites that have been identified, and are available for inclusion into the project.

The project has ambitions to deliver a further 30 units across Harrow. These will create a thriving, self sustaining community.

Single homelessness schemes

Working with Harrow council and local Voluntary & Community Sector  (VCS) organisations we are supplying 2 houses in strategic locations in Harrow for single homeless rough sleepers to find a safe and supported place to live.

Once settled into the accommodation, the service users will be supported to take the next steps to independent living. We will maintain the housing to a high standard, enabling the tenants to feel safe and comfortable whilst they endeavour to get their lives back on track.

• Supports the most vulnerable in Harrow
• Good housing supports better outcomes
• Tenant support bolted into tenancies
• Support for tenants to move into secure tenancies

We believe that supplying the best sort of housing to everyone is key in building self supporting lives, these are not homes for life, but offer the link between homelessness and sustainable tenancies in the future.

Whilst supplying the homes and maintaining them, we work closely with the council and local charities offering the support services for the tenants.

Harrow VCS farm and learning centre

Harrow is becoming increasingly urban, our open spaces are being built on and our communities are losing touch with outside spaces.

An Urban Farm in Harrow will reconnect our residents with the outside and show our communities a healthy, sustainable way of living.

Knowing where our food comes from and learning about sustainability will help the families of Harrow build great practices into their busy everyday lives, whilst enjoying some peace and quiet in a great location.

Working with a borough land owner and local Voluntary & Community Sector  (VCS) organisations we are working to deliver a 30 acre, working urban farm.

The initial work is to layout and design the future layout of the farm is funded and underway, this will include –

• Education Centre
• Farm Shop
• Poly Tunnels
• Microbrewery
• Farm Cafe
• Working Farm
• Orchard
• Bee Hives

We will be delivering new and re-purposed assets for vital services to be offered from, whilst delivering a great, educational day out for the residents of Harrow.

HelpHarrow project

We have been supporting Harrow council and colleagues in the Voluntary and Community Sectors (VCS) to provide food supplies for those residents initially affected by Covid. This has now expanded to support Harrow residents through the cost of living crisis.

We have had the opportunity to make a significant impact on the organisational capabilities of the partnership set up by the council.  We were able to help set up –

• HelpHarrow.org – An online referral system for food and support
• Increase food supplies into the community hub set up by the partnership
• Set up the delivery system that Harrow Community Transport operated
• Liaise between partners and the Council
• Set up a single point of contact supporting high risk and vulnerable residents
• Create a flexible partnership approach
• Liaise with food suppliers such as Felix project
• Implement a reporting system

We are looking at ways of evolving this service to make sure that Harrow residents are supported through the Covid recovery stages and beyond.
